I had an inquiry from someone asking why my blog was devoid of advertising. They went on to explain how many different types of ads I could run on my blog and suggested that I could make some extra money by blending in a few ads amongst the content.
The blog has always been a hobby and I still generally blog when I have a bit of free time or come across some interesting information or events that I think are worth sharing.
Funny how real life has it’s way of taking time from some of the things you’d rather be doing.
At one point the blog was neglected for a period of time and I didn’t realize that it had gotten hacked.
From the beginning, I never considered adding Google AdSense, Yahoo Publisher Network, Kontera, AdBrite or any of the other types of ads to my posts as I just felt it would clutter up the place.
Hadn’t thought about adding affiliate marketing links or promotional offers in my posts either as they’re just meant to offer a bit of information and possibly help out another webmaster.
Turned down numerous offers from individuals wanting to place small unobtrusive text ads in the existing posts for a nominal monthly or annual fee.
We all went through the learning curve and some information was harder to find than others when you were just starting out.
Today, it seems that most blogs are slapped up and plastered with advertising or pop-ups which makes it difficult to get to the meat of the content, if there is any.
The ads are meant to appear as though it’s part of the content to get you to click on the links which can make your search for information just a bit more difficult.
So, for now, I think I’ll stay ad free. I kinda like it that way and I hope you do too. Maybe I’ll change my mind in the future, who knows?
